This is a class action lawsuit brought by Plaintiffs on behalf of themselves and a class of current and former Honda vehicle owners and lessees with defective door locking actuators in model years (“MY”) 2007-2011 Honda CR-V vehicles (the “Class Vehicles”). This action arises from Defendants’ failure, despite their longstanding knowledge of a material design defect, to disclose to Plaintiffs and other consumers that the Class Vehicles are predisposed to a door lock actuator defect (collectively, the “Door Lock Defect”). This defect – which typically manifests during and shortly after the limited warranty period has expired – will inevitably cause the door lock actuators in the Class Vehicles to fail. Once the door lock actuators cease operating properly, the door locking mechanism(s) fail to function as intended and expected. When the Door Lock Defect occurs it poses a safety risk to the operator and passengers of the vehicle since the door locking and unlocking features fail to operate correctly. In some instances, single or multiple doors on the Class Vehicles may not lock at any time, whether the vehicle is turned on or off, despite necessary commands by the operator.
This jeopardizes the safety of Vehicle occupants by making them more vulnerable to potential crime, unintentional door openings during operation and other risks that could have otherwise been avoided. This defect also renders the Class Vehicles and their contents vulnerable to theft when left unattended. In other instances, the Class Vehicles doors may not unlock electronically despite the necessary commands. This jeopardizes the safety of Vehicle occupants since not all doors are capable of being manually unlocked from the exterior of the vehicle. In addition to others, the Door Lock Defect poses a particular risk to young children occupying the rear seat since they may be unable to open the door from inside the vehicle while an individual outside the vehicle may also not be able to unlock the door from the exterior since rear manual unlocking provisions are absent. As alleged, not only did Honda actively conceal the fact that particular components within the door locking system are defective (and require costly repairs to fix), they did not reveal that the existence of this defect would diminish the intrinsic and resale value of the Class Vehicles and lead to the safety concerns described within.
For customers with vehicles within the written warranty period (which extends for the shorter of 3 years or 36,000 miles), Honda has done nothing more than temporarily repair the Door Lock Defect, or replace it with other similarly defective and inherently failure-prone door lock actuators. Honda has refused to take any action to correct this concealed design defect when it manifests in vehicles outside the warranty period. Since the Door Lock Defect typically manifests shortly outside of the warranty period for the Class Vehicles – and given Defendants’ knowledge of this concealed, safety related design defect – Honda’s attempt to limit the warranty with respect to the Door Lock Defect is unconscionable here. Despite notice and knowledge of the Door Lock Defect from the numerous consumer complaints it has received, information received from dealers, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) complaints, and its own internal records, Honda has not recalled the Class Vehicles to repair the Door Lock Defect, offered its customers a suitable repair or replacement free of charge, or offered to reimburse its customers who have incurred out of pocket expenses to repair the defect. As a result of Defendants’ unfair, deceptive and/or fraudulent business practices, owners and/or lessees of class vehicles, including Plaintiffs, have suffered an ascertainable loss of money and/or property and/or loss in value. Plaintiffs bring this action to redress Defendants’ violations of the New Jersey, Florida and California consumer fraud statutes, and also seek recovery for Defendants’ breach of express warranty, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, common law fraud and, alternatively, unjust enrichment.
My Honda CRV (2007) is now giving me the same problems with the lock as described above. I have tried to lock the doors manually both inside and outside of the car, with the remote, and the buttons on the door. Nothing works! The lock continues to unlock itself within a second or so. Also while driving, I've noticed that the lock function keeps making noises, i.e., as if locking and unlocking itself every 30 seconds. I've tried calling Honda Corp.
And they still are not offering a recall on this issue! Meanwhile, there's a class action lawsuit on this issue in three states. I'm in Texas but bought my car from California. I've already had an issue with the A/C compressor malfunctioning and now this!
My family and I have been loyal Honda customers and now I'd have to say I'll never buy another Honday again. Contacting Honda Corp only irritates me further since they give only generic responses and don't seem to really care about customer service or their own reputation. My rear passenger door will not lock with key fob, door lock button, nor manually. When I press the door locks or try manually the lock slowly unlocks itself leaving my car open for anyone to remove items from my car. When I tried to manually lock the door its hard to press the lock in compared to other door locks which move freely without binding. Of course its out of warranty, even the extended warranty that I purchased. I have also had to have the Tpms sensors fixed 7-8 times and its still malfunctioning. I am having this issue with my 2009 CRV.
Front passenger door and back lift door will not unlock manually or automatically or with the key fob. Extremely inconvenient and a safety issue as well. Because we cannot get the door unlocked, my mechanic believes the only way to fix this is to cut into the door panel so they get to the guts of the door. They believe fixing the passenger door issue will automatically fix the back lift door issue due to how the lock/unlock message is passed through the doors. So I'll end up having to pay for a new door panel as well as a new actuator.
Probably looking in the neighborhood of $800-$1000 to get this fixed. I have just ordered my fourth lock. I talked to the dealership last week and asked if they have alot of CRV owners with this problem and he said not really. I said I have a customer that is having the same problems.
He said it is probably a poorly designed lock. I have had all of the same issues doors locking and unlocking. I also have have had issues with the door not wanting to open.
When I first had this problem they said they have never seen this before. They wanted me to purchase an expensive extended warranty. The said they could hook this up to their computer the cost would be $68.00. They said it may or may not tell them what the problem is. They said it might be an eletrical problem.
They said if it is eletrical problem they are not sure how much this would cost. I signed up for the extended warranty and later cancelled because they were cutting back at my work and I could not afford it. They did hook it up to their computer and said it was the door lock. I would never purchase another Honda based on this problem.
My 2008 CRV passenger front and back door will not stay locked, it first started about 4 month ago to make all this clicking noises, like it was locking and unlocking at certain speeds like 10 or less mph and more clicking when I would speed back up, but I never saw the locks them self move, until about a month ago they would now move to the lock and unlock position, and now the doors will not stay locked at all I poked at the rubber thing on the car that goes in when the door is shut today and that help it but Im not sure for how long. My 2008 Honda CRV is having a similar problem. Passenger side door won't stay locked. Took it to a dealer who charged me a $46.50 diagnostic fee and then wanted to charge me $245 for a door lock actuator. I refused to pay $245 for a lock.
I have noticed odd things with the power locks since I bought it but those where just annoying things, not real problem. But now, this is a problem because I am unable to lock my car up.

It kept locking approx 10-15 secs after unlocking it. It made it so I would have to quickly jump in the car and start it before it locked. All four locks would lock at the same time and had to be replace. And I was unable to use the key to unlock it. I had multiple occasions that I got locked out. I live were it is windy, and one day I started the car and saw a dog running so I went to get it and the door shut.
I was unable to get in and tried to use a hanger to roll the window down, ripped the door seal doing so, and still was unable to get in. I had to get my grandmother to call AAA and use her number to get a tow because all my information was in the car. I hear this high pitched noise when I crank my CRV that is the door locks malfunctioning. My remote only works half the time- despite having changed the battery. Last week on my way to work the locks starting locking an unlocking every time I stopped on their own. Its at the dealership now and they can't duplicate the problem and say it is not an electrical issue. Dealer corrected by replacing the door actuator $247.01. The front passenger door failed at 52171 mi and the actuator had to be replaced by dealer in that door. There is a Utube video out showing how to replace the actuators.
No, you don't have to cut the door panel out to replace an actuator. Bad mechanic. Also the dealer will try to tell you your car is an isolated problem.
I have an acquaintance 3 blocks away with a 2007 Honda CRV and she has had 3 actuators replaced. My doors all lock back automatically. I have to click two or three times for any of them to unlock. Sometimes more. Then all 5 of them lock back within one to two seconds. The driver door will not even open manually from the inside. The manual lock wont budge by hand.

About 2 years ago, the passenger side rear door would make a loud grinding noise when it was locked automatically. The dealer fixed it (at my cost). Now the back gate has a hard time closing, we have to push on the button several times before it will catch and stay closed. I ordered a replacement actuator on-line through a Honda dealer (part number 72150-SWA-A01) and replaced myself. This fixed the issue. Now (October 3rd, 2013), the left front actuator is doing the same thing and also trapped me in the car which required me using the passenger door to exit. I have ordered another part to repair it.
Total cost to date is $115.03 not including my labor. Is this limited to only the CR-V? I have a 2009 Civic EX-L that has recently locked the driver (my wife) in the car when the key was shut off and the panic alarm sounded. It took several minutes of pushing all sorts of combinations of buttons on the door and remote and several cycles of turning the ignition on, starting the car and shutting it off before it finally unlocked the door. A search on the internet shows electric door locking problems are widespread over a broad range of Civic model years and the CR-V shares the Civic platform, if I'm not mistaken. Over the last 6 months we've noticed that every time we slow down and take off again, the door locks keep going through the process of locking the doors. Didn't think much of it until today when we noticed that the right rear door does not stay locked at all, it will lock and then immediately unlock itself, no matter how many times you attempt to lock it. Basically, we have no way of locking our vehicle to keep either ourselves or our valuables safe.
So I called and spoke to the service rep here at West Broad Honda in Richmond VA and he stated that even though our vehicle fits the exact year, make and model and description of the know issue with the door locks, our vehicle is not included in the recall. It's obvious that Honda is doing their best to keep this concealed and not go out of their way to fix this known safety issue. Sad for Honda, because we'll have to think twice about which vehicle we'll be purchasing in February 2014. Very sad that they charge so much for everything else and when it comes to fixing a known safety issue and are now involved in a class action lawsuit over it, they'll do whatever they can to avoid fixing it. My car started locking and unlocking on its own and then went on to the passenger front and back door. My car has completely locked me out all together.
I have to leave the car doors unlocked and the back passenger window open to ensure entry into the car. This is unacceptable and unsafe. All the door locks on my 2007 Honda Civix EX try to lock themselves whenever I accelerate through 9mph. They're supposed to do that ONCE for each time the vehicle is turned on, as a safety measure.
Now, every time I come to a stop, or slow down past 9mph, it tries to lock the doors while accelerating back through 9mph. Also, the rear passenger door does not respond to lock/unlock commands, and must be manually locked/unlocked by pushing the locking mechanism by hand, making it impossible to open the locked door from outside the vehicle. I know of no solution except to disable auto locks, and would gladly do that before spending what others have come to find is $400 to get the problem fixed. Unacceptable, honda. My vehicle has 85k miles on it.

The keys were left in the vehicle by a family member as we always do when it's parked in our garage, as she parked it in our garage.and as soon as she closed the door we were locked out, we had to break a window to get back in to retrieve the keys. I have a 2007 Honda CRV. The door locks started making a continual clicking noise when I am traveling at low speeds. I took it to a dealership 8 months ago and was told it would cost $100 to diagnose the problem. They then told me it could cost up to $900 to fix the problem. I chose to ignore the problem. Now the problem has progressed to the back driver's door.
It takes lots of attempts to actually lock this door. I have also noticed recently that when I turn corners, the dome light comes on as if a door has come ajar. Not very safe! I have a 2007 Honda CRV. I bought it from Brannon Honda in Birmingham Al in Jan 2011.
24th 2013, I went to get into my car. I mashed the key fob with no response. The door locks would not 'unlock'. Then I tried to manually unlock it with the key. Inserted the key, turned and would not unlock the car. I came to the conclusion that it must be a dead battery I was somewhat confused on 'WHY' a car cannot be MANUALLY UNLOCKED. I called Brannon Honda and Tameron Honda and they both seemed to have 'never' experienced this problem.
One suggested I get a locksmith and both wanted me to have it towed in. Neither could explain,'Why'my car could not be manually opened and agreed this would be a huge safety hazard if a child would have been in the car.
A locksmith would have been useless considering the locks were dead. A friend came over and we attempted to get in and even pushing down on the lock would not work. One Honda service man told me that the door lock actuator was probably bad. Finally a body man came over took off the entire front bumper, shroud,and grill. We were able to release the hood manually and get to the battery. This was over a 3 hour job for an experienced frame and body man.We put cables on with a booster box and was able to mash the fob and the door locks instantly worked. Took the cables off and the doors would not unlock again.
This tells me that this design requires 'power' to even manually unlock the doors. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD! Man up and recall this design.
The question is simple.If my battery 'completely' runs down will I be able to unlock my car.The answer for me is NO. Btw.I have had NO problems with the locks since replacing the battery. God Bless, Scott.
I have a Honda CRV 2007. I travel alot for work. 2 weeks ago, the passenger door behind the drivers seat started to lock and unlock on it's on. It does not stay locked.
I cannot manually lock it. This is a HUGE safety issue. As a single woman, I am afraid that someone could either break into my car or be waiting in my car for me at any time I only have one vehicle and am afraid to drive it. The dealerhip has 'never heard of this problem before.' It will be 'over $500' to fix it and then there is no guarantee. We own a 2007 Honda CRV that has the exact same problem.
Had one replaced by the dealer who would not warranty the defect on the drivers door. $400.00 replacement cost! Same issue is now showing up on passenger front door. Honda needs take ownership for this!!! Filed a claim with the NTSB as a major safety concern as the doors cannot be unlocked easily when the actuators break.
In an emergency an occupant would not be able to exit the vehicle safely without using two hands. One is required to hold the door lock open and the other is needed to access the door latch. My 2008 CRV gave me similar problems. The driver rear door was making a loud grinding noise when it was locked automatically than stop locking totally. Honda would fix it and charge me approx $400 to fix it. I ordered the honda part (72650-SWA-A01) and had a guy friend help me replace it.
Total cost for part including shipping $54.63. Now my front driver lock is doing the same and I will need to replace it:(. I've purchased 3 Honda vehicles and never had problems like I have had with 2008 CRV.
Honda please take care of your loyal customers. I am also having problems with my door locks on my Honda 2003 CRV. The keys will not go all the way in, much less turn. Drivers side will not lock at all but occasionally it will and when it does I have to climb in through the rear door.
Seems the locks have a mind of their own. Honda quoted me $587.00 to fix the front locks. I work for the U.S. Postal Service and am required, (0 tolerance) to have my doors locked at all times. I'm afraid I will lose my job over this defect. Something has to be done! I have a 2010 Honda CR-V and the locks are going crazy.
Saw another story about Honda locks malfunctioning that said 0.02% of the calls Honda had received were about locks. Yesterday I called Honda to add to that percent. I told the rep I wanted to file a complaint and got a case number. She said there was nothing they could do at that time because the car is out of warranty (4 years old, 60k miles).
I went to the dealership for service today and told them about the problem. The diagnosis is that the driver's side rear passenger lock actuator is bad and the driver's door is about to go. It will cost $350 to replace each one. I have no idea what I'm going to do when the driver's door goes out because I'm finding through searches that you can't even manually open the door once that one breaks.
I'm waiting on the repairs to see what happens with this class action suit and if Honda will issue a recall. I'm not happy and will likely not be buying a Honda in the future!

I have a 2007 CRV. It has been a great car up till this past week when I have the same problem that all the above have been talking about.
Mine lock again a second that I unlock them with the key fob. Also if I put my key in the ignition and dont turn it slowly on, my horn starts blaring and I have to wrestle with getting the key out and try and get the door open fast before the key locks again and open the door to stop it. My granddaughter was in the back seat and the key was not in the ignition and when she got her door open, the horn went off. I am afraid that I might not be able to open the doors from the outside or get stuck inside and cant get out!

In February 2014, I noticed that any time I would come to a stop or slow down below 10 mph and then speed up again, my door locks would make the 'lock' sound even though they were already locked. This was the first time this had happened in the almost 4 years I've owned this car. I kept meaning to have this looked at but a busy schedule didn't allow. Other than the phantom 'locking' while driving, they worked perfectly fine. Then today (March 4, 2014), I came out of the store with groceries and tried to unlock the trunk/cargo door with my key fob and it wouldn't unlock. That's when I noticed that I can't open the cargo area from the outside using a key (key into lock).
I guess I was so used to opening it with a button that I never noticed it didn't have an 'old fashioned' lock. My driver's side passenger door also didn't unlock. So now I only have 3 doors that unlock with the button.
This has become frustrating and I worry how far this problem will go. I have a 2007 Honda CR-V. I too have had issues with my locks cycling off/on for years. As of last week, I have been unable to unlock the tailgate. I just took it to O'Neill Honda in Overland Park, KS. They just told me they aren't sure how to do the repair!
What does that even mean? Given that they can't aren't sure how to do the repair, they are unable to estimate the cost to fix it. They did say a new actuator is $130 and the labor just to figure how to do the repair is $800. No guarantees that the $800 will actually resolve the issue though. Apparently there is no manual release for the tailgate so they can't get to the lock actuator to replace it.
Can you say safety design flaw and class action lawsuit? I'm scared to drive my car with my son and dogs inside after reading these comments. I can't imagine what I'd do if they got locked inside. I am stunned at the number of complaints here about the door locks, all models, including my 2009 Fit which just turned 30,000 miles and has a broken drivers side door lock. Can we not get any advice from Honda? Surely they know where the problem is, and could offer at least advice so we don't get cheated at the dealers. Is it an actuator, the actual lock cylinder, or what?
Honda, you disappoint me! This is my first Honda, having owned two of the other ' big three' (a Toyota and a Nissan). I'm being sent on a fishing expedition to fix a critical issue, with no clue as to the problem, leaving me to figure out something I know nothing about so I can get good resolution at a fair price. Yeah, that's going to happen:-(. This is not limited to just the crv. The civic has the same exact issue.
I have called Honda about this and a few of the other issues that seem to be common place with Honda. Sadly Honda wants nothing to do with repairing anything! Honda does NOT stand behind their product!! Had I know this was the case with honda I would never have purchased one. I bought a honda because of their reputation.
Somehow you don't hear of this side of it. Previously I owned a Mitsubishi and I will absolutely go back to them in my next car. The Honda is made of the cheapest materials and honda knows this. Shame on them!!!! Same issue with my 2008 Honda CRV.

Went to honda have them my keys and the vin # of my car start to cut my org key ad thought they gave me the wrong key, guess what key didn't work to unlock door now my key won't start my car. Whet back to honda to let them no, they say they have to charge me to find out y my key don't work because my warranty is up. I started having this problem about a month ago, and finally called about it yesterday (at 36,093 miles).
I was told I could pay $165 to diagnose the problem and the dealership would decide if Honda was at fault. I will call Honda Corporate today to request an extension to my warranty. I am a loyal Honda customer.
However, if Honda does not take care of this problem I will never purchase another Honda again. Now the right front passenger side keeps making a loud annoying noise everytime the car relocks itself. This happens around 6 to 8 times per every trip in my car. The Honda dealer has quoted me $250-$260 to fix the actuator for that door. I am worried that if the lock problem is still an issue all of my other doors are going to start making the same noise and I will paying to fix all of them. Is there a recall for this problem?
2005 CRV with 90k miles.driver side door locks chattered for awhile, then quit working with key fob, had to lock & unlock with key. Then, the other door locks would not work with key fob and had to use key in hatch to lock and unlock it. I took to local Honda dealer and told me I doubted I was the only one with this type of problem. Service guy told me all 5 actuators were going and all needed to be replaced for $970. I wanted to know how this could happen.
He told me since we live in Vegas, he sees it all the time! I work from home and my CRV is in the garage all the time. I do run out to the store, etc, but for the most part, it is in the garage away from the elements.
I feel the 2005 CRVs should be included in the class action law suit since it sounds like it's exactly the same problem as the 2007-2011. I have a 2007 Honda CR-V and started having problems with my right rear door about 6 months ago, I started to worry because I was about to have my 2nd child and I needed both doors to work to get the kiddos in and out with ease so I started looking into fixing it and I found this website. I was totally shocked to find out I was not the only one with this issue, what gets me even more upset is that a month ago my front driver door lock started malfunctioning and last night when I exited my car (door was still open) the alarm activated on its own! So here I am on this page again after all these months and I'm concerned for my family's safety. I purchased a Honda for reliability and safety issues, now I'm feeling like it was the wrong choice.
I have 2007 CRV every lock on it not working correctly. I just got driver door fix but front passenger door can only lock or unlock manually from inside so can't open from outside. On the back locks one will stay locked other one will not stay unlocked long enough to open door. Now my back trunk will of open at all. Do not feel safe when grandkids are in back and I am worried that pretty soon all my doors are going to be like the trunk and not open at all. Shame on Honda for not doing the right thing and doing recall on these locks.
Will not purchase a Honda again if this is the way they treat their customers. It it too late to get in the class action suit? 2008 Honda CR-V LX 2.4L owner. Right after warranty expired had problems with rear passenger side door lock. Took it to a mechanic and it worked for a matter of weeks before some other issue arose. Now that door cannot be opened from the inside, but rather only from the outside.
At around 90,000 miles started having issues with the alarm/trunk door lock not closing from key remote. It would open just fine, you just couldn't lock it. You had to do it manually from the front drivers' door controls. Therefore no alarm either. Now it's locked shut and whenever I carry larger items I have to load everything through the rear side doors, at least while those are still cooperating. One day I am afraid I will end up having to climb in through a side window in order to drive my car.

Based on what I've read on this site; it looks like Honda's not addressing the issue either. I have same problem with my 2009 Honda Accord, now 3 doors don’t work. About a year ago, I began having periodic problem with the rear passenger side door lock; it would not lock or unlock with the power lock. About 3 or 4 months ago, I began having intermittent problems with the rear driver side lock, now, the front driver side door have started working intermittently (most of the time it doesn’t work).
I took the car to a Honda dealer; they want $125.00 just to diagnose the problem and almost $750.00 to fix three doors. However, he mentioned that most probably actuators are the problems and that tells me that this is a common problem with the Honda cars. When my automatic door lock wouldn't work on my 2009 Honda Accord, I used my second remote thinking this was the problem. I didn't use it long until it didn't unlock my doors. I replaced batteries thinking that was the problem but it didn't help on either remote. I have to manually unlock the door and also unlock my trunk by using the trunk latch in the car.
This is a security issue for me when I can't get into my car using the remote and trying several times to manually unlock the door. What am I supposed to do? I have a 2008 CRV. Les than a year ago the door locks started locking themselves on all 4 door and the vrey back door.
They would not unlock with the key fob. Bob Howard HOnda Dealer in Edmond, OK made me pay to have it fixed. WHen I told them about all of hte info on the internet about the faulty dorr lock actuators, they told me it was hogwash. Kept my car for 2 days, only replaced a rod in the door and refused to replace the actuator. Now less than a yr later it is doing hte same thing and locking all doors constantly by itself.
I am going to have to take it in again. Last time they had it for 2 days and really didn't know what to do to fix it and told me to bring it back if it happens again but would't cover the cost unless it did it again within 30 days of the repair. The key would not allow me to open the door. The car is dead the battery is probably dead and this is very dangerous I cannot get in my car. I now have to call a service to open my doors and to charge the battery.
I cannot open the doors with any of the keys that I have. This is unfortunate for me. Honda should do something about this.
I will not buy another Honda for this reason alone. I have had two. I am looking at this time for a new vehicle. It would have been the third. Honda acts like it doesn't know anything that this was a new occurrence. I see that its not.
Where is a recall?? I cannot lock my 2007 honda crv. I have lost property because of this and if shopping I have to take anything home first before stopping somewhere else or it will get stolen. I know there have been ocassions when someone entered my vehicle because change would be missing. Not being able to lock it endangers me at times and as you drive it constantly locks and unlocks.
I took it in to the dealership and they wanted between $400 and $500 to fix it which I will probably have to do, both my husband and I are disabled and this poses a hardship on us as our money is strictly budgeted. 2007 CRV here. But always at least once. At around December 2013, it stopped happening but now, we have a grinding noise (only when locking) in the rear/driver side door. All of a sudden the locking/unlocking stops, and this problem pops up. After doing a little research it seems to be a faulty actuator. We just started having an issue with the doors locking on their own. We become trapped in the car all the time. It happens immediately when we stop the car. We have about 10 seconds to get out.
The cars locks all the time. It is dangerous as we cannot get outand it relocks right away.

At first i became concerned i was going to lock my keys in the car, now it is just cincerning that i cannot get out if there is an emergency. We have tried all combinations in the manual.
None of them work to resolve the issue. 2007 door actuator from the rear left and right door was replaced last April. And this morning, my wife dropped a bombshell that the front passenger side door is locking itself and that pertains to the stupid actuator again. The first repairs cost me almost $450 to replaced the two actuators. This time around I'll be the one who will replace it and the cost of the actuator itself from the dealer is $89. Also last month, it was the starter that went kaputt. This really makes me hate Honda because I have only 52,000 miles in it and cost me again $515.
I purchased a pre-owned Honda crv 2007 with out knowing about this issue and yesterday the door actuator spoiled and doors had unlocked on it's own in park and ride. While I was driving home the locks were opening and closing on it's own. It was late night when I reached home and I parked my car in our apartment parking lot and when I went and checked in the morning the locks were open again. Today I reached to Renton honda service and they are saying the cost would be around $400.

Bought preowned Honda CRV (07) in 2013. 2 mos later had to replace Rear passenger door lock actuator as it stopped working and had the loud rattle noise. Now a year later I have a faulty Rear driver side actuator, the door will not lock, if manually locked it comes undone - I found this out when my 2 yr old grandson opened the door from his carseat. CAR WILL NOT LOCK.
All locks now engage and disengage randomly when traveling at low speeds or stop and starting. FURIOUS - this is expensive and is a manufactures defect. From what I've read people are replacing these ($$$$) only to have them go bad again in another year or two. This issue is not limited to the CRV.

Now my passenger door lock is broken. The door will not remain unlocked. As soon as you unlock it, it will just lock itself right back. I am the original owner of a 2007 Honda CR-V LX. I have owned Hondas all my life and have loved them. I am in a tough bind. The only door that my key fob will unlock is my driver door. None of the other doors, including the keyless entry hatchback will unlock. I am a home health nurse and rely upon much needed supplies in the back of my car on a multi-use daily basis. And now I in a serious quandry.
Must I spend hundreds of dollars to be able to access the back of my car that should be accessible by a simple opening of the hatchback? I have to quickly open the door after unlocking it with the key to get in and out of the vehicle. Forget it if I want to get into the hatch, sometimes it lets me and other time it doesn't. Honda wants to replace the mechanism for $250.00 and from what I understand is a defective part bc they do not have a fix for this. I definitely do not want to spend this money on a part that Honda is not backing up. It is also a safety issue, I would hate to be lock in the car should I have to escape for any reason.
Honda I am extremely disappointed in a make of car that I use to rave about highly. I have a 2007 CRV, I bought it 3 years ago, pre-owned. 2 months ago the problem with driver side door lock started, my car locked me inside of it, I don't know what I finally did to get out, but it took about 15 minutes. Yesterday at the car wash the driver door locked on its own while I was washing, of course my phone, purse, number for roadside assistance were all locked inside the car. I tried to disable the automatic door lock and could not get it to reset. I have read many stories like mine.

This past Sunday, July 28, 2014, I noticed while driving that every time I stepped on the brake then accelerated, all the door locks would make the clicking sound as if they were being locked.even though they were already locked. I have two young kids and have to get on one of the most conjested freeways in the Los Angeles areas everyday to take my kids to school and to get to work and it's a scary thought to think of the possibility of getting in an accident and not being able to get my kids out.
I've owned 3 Hondas, but I will never buy another one. I have a 2008 Honda Fit Base. It has around 37,000 miles on it. In April, the lock on the driver's side door stopped working and I was afraid I was either not going to be able to get in the car or lock the car.
I took it to a local dealer in Littleton, Colorado who said the lock needed to be replaced. It cost $256.00. About three weeks ago, my key would not go into the ignition. I had to force it in and I took it to another dealer who ended up paying for a new ignition switch and lubricating the driver's door lock.
I am trying to get my money back from the first dealer for the replacement of the driver's door lock and they told me to call America Honda who has opened a 'case' on it and is supposed to get back to me next week. To me, the problem has to be in the key itself as the chances of both the ignition lock and driver's door lock malfunctioning within two months of each other is highly unlikely. Driver side door inoperable and rear hatch.
They are connected apparently and do not unlock with key fob remote or key. Started few years ago with driver's side rear passenger door unlocking and would not lock with remote and set alarm. I put a small piece of cardboard under the door lock and then it worked fine for a year. The driver side door and rear hatch started working again and just a fews nights ago I got locked out at the grocery store at 1 a.m. Nothing would unlock so I could get home! I was so upset and tired, finally the back passenger door lock on the driver's side popped open. I had to crawl over the seats to get in and finally drove home.
Disabled so it was difficult to do. Have to unlock passenger side front door to get in and out and have it jammed so it won't lock me out.
Honda should be fined and made to replace the locks as this is fraud and dangerous. When I did research on the 2007 CRV there was no mention at all online of faulty door locks/actuators that I could find. Consumer Reports needs to know about this too so they can warn consumers before they purchase a Honda. I want them to pay for the actuators and replace them free. I'm a senior and unable to afford this and lying to buyers of Hondas has discredited Honda and cheapened their vehicles by not disclosing their use of faulty parts.
The tires also wore out long before the claimed mileage but after the warranty was off. 2006 Accord drivers side door lock failure to release. Only way to operate was with the key from the outside while turning to unlock and pulling up on the handle.
OR, pulling up on the unlock button WHILE pulling the door release handle on the inside. Got increasingly worse. Passenger side door has failed entirely.
Cannot open at all. We just replaced the faulty electronic lock mechanism inside the door. The replacement came from NAPA but units are available on line for less. We opted for NAPA for speed and accesability. Just over $56.00 for both passenger and drivers side units. The drivers side replacement was not too bad.
There is a youtube video on it. Pretty good video EXEPT he left out the smaller connecting link removal from the outside handle.
Easy enough once you remove the plastic cover over the face of the unit. The clips that connect the rods swing off of the rods and then they pull out of their respective places. Be careful not to drop any parts of the clips into the door.
They each are a two part clip and both are needed. The replacement went well. 1 hour from start to finish. We saved $300-$400 doing it ourselves. Now we just need to figure out how to open the passenger door to replace that unit. Tragic how Honda has learned how to design flaws that make them more money and they are not accountable for.

The left rear door started unlocking while the vehicle was in operation. I used to be able to play with the doors and the locking mechanism a bit and finally get it to stay locked. However, since it first started, it has gotten progressively worse and now is not locking at all which presents both a safety and security risk.
I spoke with Honda and there is no recall on this safety/security issue. However findlaw.com says that is a recall for 2012 CRVs and Acura ILXs for this same issue. I am curious as to why it was not extended to all CRVs experiencing this same problem.
We had 2007 Honda CRV with front passenger door lock actuator replaced around 3 yrs ago before our extended warranty expired. Issue was that during the hot weather door lock is not engaged well and actuator was replaced which was still under warranty. Now the same door lock is released right away after locking the door. Day time is more obvious than evenings.
We cannot lock front passenger door all the time when we should lock even during the parking. Dealership might charge us with the same problem. This is safety and potential car theft issue. I am having the same problem with both the right front passenger door and the tailgate. Was given an estimate of 1000+ to repair, parts were $170.00. Was told that they would have to drill out both lock assemblies to the tune of 8.5 hrs.
@$110.00 per hour. Got tailgate open in 30 seconds, replaced lock assembly and still doesn't work. Dealership said it will not work until I replace Front passenger lock assembly. This is a safety issue for my grandkids and a car thief issue. I have had 4 Honda to date but will not buy another Honda. I am having the same issue on my 2007 Honda Crv.
I bought this car brand new and have had a sereval issues with the locks on doors clicking on and off while driving. The passengers side will not stay locked. The clicking is not only annoying, but a safety issue. I have researched this numerous times, and it appears to be an on going issue, why in the world would this not be recalled??
Honda, you need to get it together!!! You are losing potential repeated customers daily for not stepping up to the plate and owning up to this issue. It is obvious this is a manufacturing defect.
I myself have owned two Honda's, and in this case third time WILL not be the charm! My Honda CRV 2011 just stopped allowing me to lock it using the key fob. I can unlock it fine, for now. I did however notice that I changed the interior light to the off position while sitting in the backseat at a outdoor get to get to gether so I'd have some light from the car. After that I couldn't use the fob anymore. I've tried turning that interior light off & on but no good. If I had known Honda would do this & not honor it's duties to correct a know Failure in its system I would have thought twice abt.

Half the time my key fob doesnt work, sometimes my doors will lock and unlock while I am driving down the road. This is just the beginning of the multitude of issues I have had with this car. As reputable as Honda is, I would expect them to stand behind their cars and products. However it seems that they cannot fix this problem along with other problems I have taken my car in for, because other problems I have had, I have had to take it back for the same problem multiple times as well. I can promise you that now that it is a safety concern and not being able to lock my car from the inside, if I have to pay to have this issue fixed due to my car being out of warranty, this will be the LAST honda I buy and I will contact the BBB. I truly feel as though I have a Lemon car. I own a 2009 Honda Accord.

As everyone else posting to this page, I have a 2010 Honda Accord and as of this morning my drivers side door locks and will not open unless I reach in open window. Spoke to local Honda dealership (60 miles away) said I needed to come in and pay them $106.95 for them to diagnose the problem and if in fact it is the actuator, it would cost $400 to install part after the received part overnight next day. Yeah, well do we all have $500 lying around? This is a safety issue b/c I'm either leaving my window down to reach in and open door or leaving the car unlocked and at risk for being stolen. So I would like to know what's going on here? Does someone have a lawyer involved with this?

Thank goodness for Google! This very same problem just started with my 2007 CRV EX-L. Honestly, I have been very pleased with this car and with Honda as an auto manufacturer. HOWEVER, my happy experience is turning ugly. As of about 2 weeks ago my auto locks started to auto-unlock and then re-lock depending upon the speed of the car. THEN it became even more possessed and started playing Russian roulette with the door locks.
One minute the left passenger side wouldn't lock, then it was the right passenger side, no wait now it is the front passenger door, let's not forget getting into the back (trunk) from the OUTSIDE of the car -- no can do today. Yup, it is flipping crazy and has made my car very vulnerable to theivery of personal items carried and even theft of the car itself! I had had enough earlier tonight and came in and Googled the issue. That is how I found this site. Currently, I have no solution as I have not taken my car into my auto dealer to hear what they have to say, yet. But, I will and will let you know what happened.
By the way, I live in Colorado. I have noticed Colorado has not yet been included in this Class Action Suit -- how do we make that happen? 2010 CRV and am having the same problem. Locks constantly but usually can unlock but not last night thank goodness my teen age son was in the car and was able to open passenger door from inside but could not open driver side for anything: not with the key or manually from inside. We drove it home and had me crawl out of passenger side but then all the doors locked after we closed the doors and now Honda dealership recommended that I call a tow truck to unlock it. Honda claims it's not part of the recall but I can't imagine how this isn't.
My 2000 CRV model is having the same problem we are having for the last 5 years. I cannot get out of the car on the driver's side so I have to go thru other doors.
And it is really troublesome, I don't know what to do. It paused a lot of safety problem for my family. It is on and off and so for years it has been like this. My CRV is model 2000, so it could be Honda problems.
I am asking to be included in the class action lawsuit for this Honda. Since we started having problems with it, we've reported this to service office of Honda and they said they cannot do anything about it. We tried it have replaced but didn't solve the problem.
