Middlebury awards need-based financial aid to qualified applicants in the Language Schools. All Language School students are eligible to apply for financial aid. Financial aid is available in the form of grants and loans. During the summer of 2017, approximately 49 percent of Language School students received grants, with an average award of $6,161.

Financial aid awarding will start in January. How do I apply? First, you must submit a complete Middlebury Language School application. After you have submitted your Language School application, you will then receive an email with a link to the financial aid application. Please apply as soon as possible, as funds tend to run out quickly. Supplemental forms, if required, should likewise be submitted as soon as possible. Do *not* wait for an admissions decision.

If you file your taxes by paper, we suggest you delay the filing of your FAFSA for 4-6 weeks to ensure that the IRS has access to the proper information. Verification Middlebury verifies the federal financial aid application of any graduate student selected by the federal government.
Verification is required by the federal government and compares the information reported on your FAFSA to the information filed on your federal tax returns. Your taxable income must be verified by using the FAFSA's IRS Data Retrieval Tool or by comparing it to an IRS tax transcript. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool allows you and your family to upload data from your filed federal tax returns at the time you complete your FAFSA. If you choose not to use it, you must manually enter this income information into your FAFSA and submit an IRS tax transcript to our office. It can take several weeks for the IRS to process transcript requests, which will delay the processing of your financial aid application.
We cannot award your financial aid until verification is complete. Track the availability of financial assistance and the enrollment status of programs, below (updated weekly). The SFS Awarding Date indicates where our office is with regards to awarding grant assistance. This date is a combination of your acceptance date to the Language School and the date by which your aid application was reviewed (not submitted) by the SFS Office.
The latter of the two dates is the date of record.
